They didn't make the same mistake twice.

When Apple released it's original PowerBook G3, they made it so that, when the machine was in use, the a person standing in front of the user would see the big, lit-up Apple logo... upside-down. Talk about branding 101... they fixed it a few generations later.

I just got an iPod shuffle with two Amex gift certificates from a client of mine. I was walking around my house with the iPod hanging from its lanyard around my neck. When I went to change songs... YAY! Apple made it so that when you naturally pick up from it's hanging position, the controls are right side up. In other words, when hanging around your neck, the controls are upside down... just like the Apple logo on the corrected PB G4.

Smart.

Who created God?

Seriously?

Vacations planned, 3. Vacations taken, 0.

Talk about feeling guilty about feeling disappointed.

My father-in-law was going to take the whole family to Grand Cayman... but a hurrican wiped out large swaths of the country. Then he decided to take us to Punta Cana, but a malarial outbreak prevent us from going. Then, our awesome friends invited us up to their house in the Berkshires for a couple days of snowboarding. But their son (who is okay) wacked into a tree, and their other boy has a fever. So our friends (smartly) bailed on the week.

So, the lesson here is this: if you want to visit disaster on someplace, plan for my family to vacation there.

But then, I did wind up taking the morning off, so that's nice.

Who ARE you people?

According to the logs, about 400 non-search-engine, unique visitors swing by every month. Who ARE you people? Leave a message. Send an email! My email address is "Rich" at championable.com

Sunday morning: We're all going to church at 10:30, then my wife is going to the library to work on her PhD. Easy peasy, as my colleague says. It's a cold and gorgeous day in Westchester, baby.

Post a comment, send a note. Love ya!

24, Season One, The Finale. (3 year old spoiler!!)

Can I just mention how much I like "24." Holy crap. The child-of-the-eighties guy in me is thrilled at seeing Kiefer Sutherland in a good show, and I think it's written and directed with way-above-average skill. Yes, I'm a few years behind. I WAS simultaneously watching season One and Four, but someone shut off the cable box, and my TiVo skipped a few weeks of this season. So now I'm just watching Seasons 1, 2, and 3.

Okay. About this finale. The fact that a season of a television show ended on such a low note... that was really impressive. After all of the craziness of the season, having it NOT turn out right in the end...

Hissing noises. Feral Screams.

My youngest is prowling the house. Hissing. Growling. Occasionally cutting loose with high-decible growl/screams which make the dogs nervous. He's in character.

This morning, I took the boys to get a haircut. The barber shop was totally empty. Three barbers stood up, the three of us sat down, and they had at it. It was a hilarious and rare sight: the three boys seated in a row, aprons on, having our hair cut. Rarely have I been prouder than I was in that moment. These boys rock.

Now, we've got a couple of the neighbor's kids over. They're playing upstairs. My rules: all doors open. Everybody plays (even the three year old, who they kind of want to exclude... and reasonably so).

Fighting has ensued from upstairs. I move to go upstairs, and its settled. Arguments over who is allowed to catch a ball, who is allowed on the bunk bed, who ...

...I just had to run upstairs and tell my daughter to keep her door open. It was partially barricaded so my youngest couldn't get in. There's a boy in there with her. That door stays OPEN.

Dear Customer.

I just got an advertisement from Amazon.com, about a sale going on at "Babies R Us."

It said: "Find many great offers, including $10 off select car seats, up to $20 off strollers, and $8 off highchairs."

I realized, with no small amount of sadness, that my Babies R Us days are over. Until I have grandkids.

Various goodness, with life thrown in.

So, I learned to snowboard. I went from not being able to stand up, to doing three green trails by the end of the lesson. Very cool. My ankles didn't hurt afterwards, either. Rather, my shoulders, forearms, wrists, back, and neck hurt from getting smacked around so much. Owie!

Today was a really productive day at work. I got some new clients, placed a couple of jobs, and generally got a lot done. That makes me psyched. I also kind of unexpectedly went out to lunch with some friends/colleagues, and returned home feeling less panicked about work than I have in ages.

My wife is sick. My youngest son is sick. We're hoping, hoping, hoping that he doesn't get pneumonia again. Ugh.

My daughter got a new nightgown today. She is heartbreakingly gorgeous.

Another day on my ass.

Yes... glutton for punishment that I am, I have decided to try my hand at snowboarding once more. Today it's me, Jackson, and Maggie, cruising north for a day at Butternut. I have a three-hour private lesson, attempting to get my sorry self off my ass on on the slope for more than 3 seconds at a clip.

Let's see how it goes, shall we?

The priest says no, but I say YES!!

And I'm not talking about gay marriage again. Although clearly I support it. Now, men are disgusting, icky pigs. I don't understand why all women aren't gay and all men therefore lonely... but apparently there's a physiological component to these things and some women find men ATTRACTIVE. Thank goodness for that.

Anyway.

Father Mark says that we shouldn't give UP something for lent, but rather try to do good. I say: cool, but I'm giving up sweets anyway. Am I using lent as an excuse for trying to lose a little weight? Sure. But I don't think that's SUCH a bad thing, and heck... I'll try to do good as well. I think I need to lower my sights a bit, and just volunteer someplace 1 or 2 days a month. I'll ask him where that should be.

Two lents ago, I gave up drinking. That was before I gave up drinking for good.

Anyway.

Gray around the chin.

I've given myself some specific creative goals for 2005. Now I've got to figure out my work life.

Now I'm a little tired.

It's 1:32am. The shuttles stop running in 28 minutes. After that, I think I have to take a hotel car. Yay, expensing!!! I gotta remember those receipts.

When I was in college, I would occasionally stay up for 24 hours, almost always for no good reason. I've been here since 7am. I'm feeling very collegiate.
