My cousin is a photographer. Part of the way he makes money is by shooting stock photos. A couple of the stock photos he's sold are of my children. Today, I was asked to show those photos to a some folks from another stock photgraphy house that's on the same floor as my office.
So I did.
When the picture of my daughter came up, I swear to God, I could barely breathe. My love for this girl hit me so strong and was so overwhelming it was hard for me to think. It blew through me like a strong wind, and when it hit me like that there was pretty much nothing I could do but just live the moment. It was sharp and painful and exquisite and utterly unique to this one little girl.
All I want I really want in the world, when it all comes down to it, is her happiness. I want people to be nice to her. When she looks in the mirror, I want her to like the person she sees looking back at her.
And I'm going to do everything I can to make that happen.
Love to all. Even you, boys.

This says almost everything a person needs to say.
Rich,
Great blog! I'm not sure I agree with anything I've read so far, but it's a really enjoyable read.
Seriously, I've enjoyed a lot of your posts. Even the ones I disagree with.
James @ Right Face!
By the way, great post. I have a little girl and I know exactly what you mean.
With a father like you I'm sure she'll do really well!
Lovely post
That is just precious! My husband is taking our girls to the daddy/daughter dance at school tonight. He's ordered flowers and is just so funny about the whole thing. There's just something about dads and their little girls.
OH, and you rolled me. How cool is that?! Thanks!
::happy sigh::
Every now and then our intense love for our kids hits hard enough even to surpise us.
What a happy post...it reminded me why I adore my monkeys so much. :)
This made me teary. Will you adopt me?
James: successfully disagreeing is something more people need to be able to do. Nice to meet you.
Gina: I'll ask Maggie. :-)
Emily: yeah, it helps to have these moments, so when I want to strangle them after they've been fighting with each other for three hours, I don't.
Vic: Thanks back!
I have two daughters who are now full grown. The time flies by so quickly, it seems like just yesterday they were running up to me with their little pigtails flying behind them. Enjoy every moment with your daughter and boys.
And it never gets any better. My 21-year old little girl had her own baby 5 months ago. I was lucky enough to be in the labor room with her, and I cannot begin to explain the depths and range of emotions to see your own child go through that.
In the next few years, I plan on having children, and I look forward to feelings as strong as that.
I can't wait to read the post on the day she goes out on her first date :-)
Bailey, I'm keeping her locked up until she's 60.
Make that 70.
