I already know I'm going to engage in some serious conspicuous consumption.
My mileage is coming up: I'm running between 20 and 25 miles a week, and I'm trying to get into a groove for when I start training for the NYC marathon in earnest this summer. A few days ago, I got an email, announcing this.
Now, I've got an iPod Video and a iPod shuffle. I run in Asics Gel Kayano sneakers. But I can see myself getting totally overwhelmed by technological compulsion. I mean, the Nike sneakers transmit running data to the iPod Nano, giving aural feedback on distance, progress, etc. It's the perfect combination of all of my gadgets. Only in new, different gadgets.
Lord help me.
Love to all. Even you, the lady who off-handedly asked me to bring "ice cream and cookies for 20."

Oh, Baroy's going to freak when I show this to him! Running! And Apple! And Technology! And his iPod! And ohmigod!
Those Nike people are evil.
Remember what happened when you switched from a Mac to a PC?
Don't switch from Asics (the best shoe, ever!!!!) to a Nike. I am soo disappointed that apple joined forces with Nike -
I think it is a good idea - but Asics would have been a far better choice.
Not to mention how much does it weigh? I am a light shoe freak (ds trainer 8 oz. or speedstar 7.5 oz.)
Oh, hell, just go buy the damn things.
I saw today, somewhere on these internets, an article about some kind of weird contraption that will fit onto a fake leg (for the life of me, I can't think of the word) (oh yeah! Prosthesis!), that will hold an iPod and all sorts of other gadgety type stuff and I thought, that is the coolest thing ever, but I think this Nike shoe ipod thing has it beat.
I just think, though, that I'll wait for the day when everything-my phone, my music, my computer, everything, is on one little chip, and I won't be able to stop myself any longer from having myself implanted with it because I could just listen and talk and walk along and email people all by just thinking. Wouldn't that be fantastic?
Damnit. Now I know how big brother's gonna get me. Through my addiction to new technology.
