This week's New Yorker has an excellent and disturbing article on AIDS denialists in South Africa. These are politicians and psuedo-scientists who claim that HIV does not cause AIDS, that retroviral drugs are poison, and that the entire HIV-industry was invented for the profit of Pharmaceutical companies.
(I think someone's confused antiretrovirals with recreational viagra.)
If you get a chance to read it, please do. What astouds me is NOT that there are people who think this way, it's how many people they've killed with their influence.

It is so sad I couldn't even read the article. And yes the viagra craze is ridiculous.
It's stuff like this that makes me believe that the devil exists and is active in this world. And I feel the influence of that evil in my despair.
Wanna hear something really bizarre? Peter Duesberg actually referenced a story I wrote in Discover magazine in one of his "HIV does not = AIDS" papers in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Totally weird to get treated like a scientific authority by someone who promotes science you don't respect.
(The other people who constantly reference another Discover article of mine? Creationists. Greeeeeeaaaaaat.)
