Testing, testing... 123.

The NYPD conducts these crazy exercises where a gigabjillion police cars converge on a specific area. Often, that area is Grand Central Station. I walked into one of these exercises at 7am this morning.

Uhm... I'm not sure what purpose does this waste of resources and taxpayers' money serve. Don't they have anything useful to do, e.g. patrol some back alley?

But then again, NYC is weird :P

While it may seem a bit silly, it is supposed to be used to show potential terriosts that the NYPD can respond quickly, effectively and in a timely matter anywhere in the city.

Here's a link I found from a local newscast that goes into a bit more detail.

Right... still stupid. Poor New yorkers and tourists who get terrorized (pun intended) by the fear and thoughts that something "bad" is actually happening when all these cops surge.

looks like an "exercise" in futility.

Looks like a good time for the criminials to be somewhere else in the city committing a crime.

I fail to see how this exercise has any sort of positive effect.

And 365 days a year is a little bit of overkill in my opinion.

That means that once a day, EVERY day, there are 200 police officers and 100 police cruisers that are TOTALLY USELESS! A good waste of tax dollars yet again.

Well, I haven't committed ANY major crimes since they started doing this.
